I have always noticed how beautiful places make photographs extra special in www.wedding.film. I loved photographing this Abigail’s Hideaway Wedding at The Duniway Hotel for the project that I started called NW Wedding Underground. NW Wedding Underground is a website that features favorite wedding venues and vendors in the Portland area and beyond. For each venue I feature, a bunch of talented vendors come together to beautify the space and let their ideas fly. We create photos as well as videos. We have vendor interviews and also give tours of the space. This one was our 3rd episode! Check out the NwWU website to see more!
This episode featured Abigail’s Hideaway, which is the rooftop garden space of The Duniway Hotel in downtown Portland. The Duniway has a bold and modern design aesthetic, and aims to celebrate the renegade spirit in all of us. The Duniway was named for Abigail Scott Duniway. She was one of Oregon’s founding sisters who came over on the Oregon Trail. She was also the first woman to register to vote in the state, and was a big women’s rights activist.
Abigail’s Hideaway is a rooftop lounge. Nestled between buildings, this protects it from the harsh sun as well as helps to keep any wind to a minimum. The space can accommodate up to 125 guests, and can be used for both the ceremony and reception. In this episode, we actually feature the reception area in Jackrabbit restaurant. Bravo’s 2017 Top Chef runs Jackrabbit.
We also show off the Vinyl Suite, a suite that you can book at The Duniway that features an entire wall of vinyl records, including a special box of records by musicians who have stayed in the room!
Rebecca Foster of Indigo Event Design helped with all the planning and design of the day. Rebecca is a go-getter and knows how to make things happen! She also focuses her business around inclusivity and celebrating love in all it’s diversity.
Chloe Duthaler of Glow By Clo did makeup for our lovely bride Rose Lawrence. She also did my makeup, which I loved!
Our bride, Rose, wore a dress that we got from The White Dress in downtown Portland. Of all the dress shops I’ve visited so far, The White Dress has been my favorite. I love that it has private bridal suites for the bride and her friends/family, that way you aren’t in a room with 20 other people you don’t know!
Local designer, Stephanie Mai, made the dress. And boy was it breathtaking! She designed dresses for private clients for years before launching her own line in 2010. From her website: “Stephanie’s style of design is known for a bold, sexy, and modern fit that incorporates soft delicate lace & feminine details. These sophisticated styles are designed to fit with perfection, with an emphasis on lightness, and comfortability”.
Floral for the feature was provided by Geranium Lake Flowers, also located downtown Portland. This flower shop has been around for over 25 years. They are extremely connected in the wedding community, are familiar with pretty much every venue around, and they absolutely love to say YES!
The cake! Have you ever seen a black wedding cake? How about a hexagonal shaped wedding cake? Why not?! Rebecca, of Bee’s Custom Cakes is all about creating things you’ve never seen or tasted before. Wacky colors, fun flavor combinations, the imagination is the limit!
Pale Pony Studios provided the stunning modern macrame ceremony backdrop, as well as the macrame table runner. Abby is incredibly talented and is so attentive to detail and perfection. She just recently launched her business, and she’s already blowing up! She currently has 4 different ceremony backdrops designs available.
Vintage Meets Modern provided all of the modern black metal chairs for the ceremony space. They have the coolest inventory around, if you’re looking for unique furniture, check them out!
The Party Place provided us with gorgeous glass gold rimmed chargers as well as gold flatware. They also have a great inventory of pretty much anything you could need for your wedding day!
