This Brush Prairie backyard wedding was one I had looked forward to for months. It was especially meaningful because I have photographed the groom (and his younger brother) since he was about ten years old. Watching him grow up and then photographing his wedding felt incredibly special.

I first met his now-wife during a family session last fall. I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their wedding. They are such a fun couple, and I loved getting to celebrate alongside them.

A Brush Prairie Backyard Wedding Full of Personality

The couple married in the groom’s grandparents’ beautiful backyard in Brush Prairie. They of course planned for sunshine in late June. The weather had other plans and tents were put up over all the stations.

The day bounced between sunshine, heavy rain, and sunshine again. Everyone got wet at some point. Shoes were soaked, including mine, but nobody seemed to mind. I always love when couples embrace whatever the day brings instead of letting the weather steal their joy. Everyone laughed, celebrated, and made the most of every moment.

The bride reminded me so much of my younger self. I absolutely loved her style. She also wore the groom’s mother’s original wedding dress from the 1990s. It fit her beautifully and added such a meaningful connection between generations.

Rain, Sunshine, and a Perfect Ending

One of my favorite details was the incredible charcuterie display. A family friend created the entire spread simply because she enjoys doing it. It looked professional, and I honestly think she should turn it into a business.

The reception was relaxed, joyful, and full of love. Guests enjoyed ice cream from Handel’s while celebrating together between passing rain showers.

The perfect ending came when the couple climbed into a bright red Volkswagen convertible Bug. The groom’s stepdad lovingly restored the car himself. It even needed a push start before they drove away, which somehow made the moment even more memorable.

This Brush Prairie backyard wedding proved that perfect weather is optional. Great people, meaningful family traditions, and a good sense of humor are what make a wedding unforgettable.
