This is one of my favorite portrait locations in all of Portland, so when I was asked to photograph this micro wedding at Peninsula Park, I was thrilled! It makes for such great backdrops and has so much variety. And even though it’s May, there’s already enough color popping to give those floral springtime vibes.
Micro Wedding at Peninsula Park
This couple wanted a very relaxed and low-key day, and do not like to be the center of attention. That said, they still wanted to have a ceremony that their nearest and dearest could witness. I met them for the first time at the park and set them up for a first look. When I first arrived I got to see one of my favorite makeup artists, Tracy… owner of Tracy Does Makeup. She did the bride’s makeup at her home and then followed her to the park to make sure her makeup was still top-notch for the photos after the drive. How’s that for amazing service?!
After the first look, we spent some time walking around finding nice backdrops for their couples portraits. As friends and family started to arrive, we did a few group photos, and then everyone headed down into the garden to prepare for the ceremony. The bride and groom made their entrance into the garden together, and the ceremony happened underneath 4 of the coolest trees. Once their vows were said and the knot tied, everyone enjoyed a few snacks just before the rain started coming down.
Wedding Party at Kennedy School
They also wanted to have a very casual but fun party so they could celebrate with more friends. So, they planned a party at McMenamin’s Kennedy School for 2 days later. It was very nontraditional in the sense that they did not wear wedding attire, and there weren’t any formal wedding activities throughout the night. Just dinner, drinks, a DJ and lots of loved ones spending time together! Oh, and they also had mini pies from Pie Spot for everyone to enjoy. So delicious. Guests could also take home little potted ferns and plants that they used as table decoration, which was a thoughtful touch.
Also, one super random thing to note that I thought was funny… on each of their two days, they had 2 different photo-bombers during their portraits, which both turned out so well! Usually, people trying to photo-bomb jump in and out too quickly to capture them. You can find both shots below 🙂
