This Portland destination garden wedding brought a couple from Texas and their favorite people together for a beautiful Oregon celebration. They had fallen in love with the Portland area while vacationing here. Eventually, they decided their wedding was the perfect excuse to bring everyone back with them.

They arrived several days early, which gave us time for an engagement session before the wedding. During that session, the bride and I discovered a very unexpected connection. We both attended Appalachian State University in North Carolina, where she played volleyball. What are the chances?!

Also, another random note about the engagement session is that we used The Fields park in the Pearl District for part of it. We got lots of shots with the Centennial Mills Water Tower in the background. About a week later, that building caught fire, and had to be demolished. I’ve photographed it quite a few times since I’ve lived here. So sad!

A Small Destination Wedding in Portland

The couple chose Ainsworth House & Gardens for their intimate destination wedding. It gave their guests a beautiful taste of the lush Pacific Northwest scenery they love.

I have photographed here many times, and I never run out of places for portraits. There are gardens, historic architecture, beautiful landscaping, and little pockets of gorgeous light everywhere.

I especially love the enormous old pine tree on the property. Sunlight streams through its branches beautifully, creating one of my favorite backdrops.

The bride’s dress from Unbridaled Austin was an absolute showstopper. The oversized bow on the back photographed beautifully and added so much personality to her look.

An Intimate Celebration Full of Laughter

This Portland destination garden wedding was smaller in size, but definitely not lacking in energy. These two laughed together constantly and were incredibly fun to photograph. The groom teased people all day with silly faces, which cracked me up, especially looking back through all the images afterwards.

Their friends and family clearly adore them too. I loved hearing all the funny and sweet stories everyone shared throughout the day. The toasts gave me an even better glimpse into their lives and relationships.

Kay from Flowers For You created the beautiful florals, which complemented the gardens perfectly. Fat Cupcake handled dessert, while Your Kitchen Chef kept everyone well fed.

Once the dancing started, Portland Party Productions kept everyone moving. The dance floor stayed lively and gave us plenty of great reception moments.

There is something especially fun about destination weddings. Everyone has traveled somewhere together with one purpose, which creates its own little world for the weekend.

This couple brought the people they love to a place they love. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate!
