Instead of sunshine and warmth, this rainy wedding at Mt. Tabor delivered a steady, chilly drizzle from morning ‘til night… almost unheard of for late June. It may have been the day after summer solstice, but Portland had other plans. But for this adventurous couple and their fellowship of loved ones, the unexpected weather only added to the magic.
Rainy Wedding at Mt. Tabor
Inspired by Lord of the Rings, the couple had envisioned an epic all-day picnic in the park, beginning with First Breakfast, followed by Second Breakfast, and continuing through the day until sundown. While the rain may have dampened the grass, it certainly didn’t dampen any spirits. Guests arrived in their finest rain gear, and the couple handed out umbrella “crowns” to keep everyone smiling (and somewhat dry).
Despite the soggy setting, laughter echoed under tents, cloaks twirled in the mist, and even karaoke broke out in true Shire fashion. A late afternoon taco lunch replaced elevenses, and the cozy togetherness felt just right. Eventually, when everyone’s toes were too frozen to continue dancing, guests helped pack up, ending the celebration with hugs and muddy boots.
A True Epic Journey
This wasn’t the day the couple had originally dreamed of, but it was still uniquely them… whimsical, joy-filled, and full of heart. It’s a beautiful reminder that no matter how carefully you plan a wedding, nature might write its own script. The key is to embrace it all: the rain, the plan B, the unexpected karaoke songs, and the people who show up for you no matter what.
Because when you think about it, what’s more Lord of the Rings than braving the elements together on an unforgettable journey?
