This sweet and adventurous wedding aboard the Portland Spirit was such a fun one to photograph. The couple planned an intimate celebration with family. The entire day had the perfect mix of relaxed joy and Portland charm.

Portraits at the RiverPlace Hotel

We started the day downtown at the RiverPlace Hotel, right along the waterfront. I met the couple there for some quiet portraits around the property. It couldn’t have been a better setting to kick things off. Once we had a few sweet moments with just the two of them, their family joined us for group photos before it was time to board the boat.

A River Ceremony With a View

The Portland Spirit crew welcomed us aboard early, and the captain was one of the most cheerful and gregarious people I’ve met. His energy instantly set a happy tone for the afternoon. Before the public boarded, the couple held their ceremony on the top deck, surrounded by blue skies, bridges, and sparkling water. It was private, scenic, and perfectly Portland.

After the ceremony, everyone moved inside for lunch and drinks while a piano player filled the room with live music. Even though the boat was open to the public, the couple had a private area reserved just for their group, so it still felt cozy and personal. There were heartfelt toasts, lots of laughter, and a few quiet moments that made it all feel really special.

Captains of the ship

At one point, the captain invited the couple to take the wheel and steer the boat under the Sellwood Bridge, which was such a fun moment to photograph. There was even a surprise mid-cruise maneuver when the crew spotted a swimmer in the water and had to act fast. Leave it to Portland to keep things interesting.

Later, the couple cut their cake and had a first dance while a member of the crew sang a live serenade. It was the perfect ending to a day that felt like a little adventure, a little romance, and a lot of love.
