It was so fun to photograph this wedding at Chapel Hill Country Club. I started my photography career in NC almost 20 years ago, but I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for the last 12 of those. While I used to travel back to NC regularly for weddings that had found me via word of mouth, the longer I was out West, the fewer those came along. But this bride is an old friend since grade school, and I was thrilled they asked me to travel back for their big day!

Wedding at Chapel Hill Country Club

Chapel Hill is one of my favorite cities in NC. I spent many college weekends driving to there for concerts at the Cat’s Cradle, and to visit friends at UNC. It is such a diverse town, and especially pretty in the fall. The Chapel Hill Country Club is a gorgeous venue inside and out. And fitting for them to use Carolina Blue throughout the decor. The couple also included pops of Carolina Blue in their wedding palette, which worked really well with the venue’s colors!

The couple were also going for a touch of Gatsby inspiration, which I always love. The bride’s dress, hair and makeup were just perfect for this! It was a very classic and formal affair!

Ceremony in the Rosemary Room

I started the day bouncing back and forth between the locker rooms where the bridal party and grooms party were getting ready. Once everyone was ready, we headed out for a first look and wandered around the property for some portraits. Then we did a few photos of the wedding party before the ceremony started!

The ceremony was held in the Rosemary room, which was a cute little space with a backdrop full of windows. The bride’s veil was a showstopper! The couple had the officiant do a reading by Neil Gaiman, which was so touching the officiant choked up while reading it. They also did a traditional hand fasting ceremony. A handfasting ceremony is a symbolic wedding ritual where a couple’s hands are tied together with a cord or ribbon to represent their commitment to each other. Afterwards, the ends of the cord are pulled to create a unique knot.

Ballroom Reception

After the ceremony, everyone headed to cocktail hour in the lounge and around the patio, before they were led into the ballroom for the reception. The ballroom was lovely with extra tall ceilings, a beautiful fireplace with a painting above it, and Carolina blue walls. Large windows and dark wood accents made it extra cozy. The wedding party all had a grand entrance and the couple went straight into an upbeat choreographed dance that led into a more traditional “first dance” afterwards. While everyone was getting dinner, I drove the couple on a golf cart out to a scenic part of the golf course for some golden hour photos. The fall colors were really popping! Then it was back to the reception to finish the night off partying and dancing!
