I was so excited to be a part of this wedding at Powell’s Rare Book Room. I’ve been photographing this family for a few years and was so excited when they reached out to me about their wedding plans. And does it get more unique than a ceremony in the rare book room at Powell’s Books?!

The day started with excitement and a little Portland magic. I met the bride and her closest friends at the Clyde Hotel, just a few blocks away from Powell’s Rare Book Room. It was the perfect place to kick off the day. We had a perfect view of Powell’s from the window, so it was easy to feel the energy of the place as everyone prepped for the big day ahead.
The bride slipped into her dress, and then we were ready to head out. The walk from the Clyde to Powell’s was a fun addition. The city felt alive and busy, especially being the weekend before Christmas, and it was the perfect setting for what was to come.

Before heading to Powell’s, we stopped by the hotel lobby for a few portraits. The space was warm and inviting, with soft light flooding in, and a few holiday decorations. We took a moment to capture some portraits of the bride. The hotel’s vintage photo booth was also a hit.

We made our way to Powell’s, just a short walk down the street. It was one of those days when the city felt like it was on our side. The weather was perfect, and we had a few fun photo opportunities along the way. It wasn’t rushed or forced. It was just us, walking through the heart of Portland, taking it all in.

When we arrived at Powell’s, the bride made sure to hide away so the groom wouldn’t see her until the ceremony. But before the guests arrived, we had one very special moment: a first look with her son. His reaction was priceless, and I can’t help but smile every time I think of it. His little face lit up, and you could see the love and excitement he had for his parents. It was one of those moments that made the day feel even more magical.

While the bride stayed hidden inside Powell’s, I took the opportunity to photograph the groom and his friends. They were relaxed, enjoying the moment, and ready to celebrate. While the couple each only had one official attendant, we took portraits of the groom with all his bachelor party besties.

The ceremony itself took place inside Powell’s Rare Book Room, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. With only about 15 people allowed inside, it felt incredibly intimate. The space was quiet, yet the energy was warm and full of love. A few of their friends from book club stood outside and watched through the window. It was such a lovely way to include everyone while still keeping the ceremony intimate.

After the ceremony, we gathered to sign the marriage license. The bride and groom shared a few laughs with their friends, and we took some group photos to capture the moment. The energy was high, and everyone was so happy to be there celebrating this special day.
We then wandered through the stacks of books, capturing more portraits of the couple. The ambiance of Powell’s made it easy to take creative photos. The bookshelves created a fun backdrop that felt both romantic and whimsical. I love it when couples embrace their surroundings like this. It always leads to some of the most unique and meaningful portraits.

Once the portraits were done, the couple skipped off to their dinner celebration at Farmhouse Kitchen Thai, just a short walk away. The dinner was a bigger celebration with more friends and family, but the intimate wedding ceremony would stay in everyone’s hearts forever.

This Wedding at Powell’s Rare Book Room was one of those days that reminded me why I love photographing intimate weddings. There’s something so special about a small, heartfelt gathering like this. The couple’s connection to each other, their son, and their friends was palpable in every moment. Powell’s provided the perfect backdrop, and the addition of their stylish matching Doc Martens made everything feel uniquely them.

For anyone considering an intimate wedding in Portland, Powell’s Rare Book Room offers a truly magical experience. It’s the perfect place to celebrate love and create memories that will last a lifetime.
