I recently got to do some wedding photography in Bucharest Romania! It’s always amazing to have my work take me to new and faraway places. I’ve been all over the USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and now Romania to photograph love in many corners of the world! This was a whirlwind trip… I was only in Bucharest for 3 full days! I was on a plane or in an airport for pretty much 2 entire days… but it was worth it!

As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of shooting in some incredible places around the world, but photographing a wedding celebration at Suter Palace Hotel in Bucharest, Romania, followed by a picturesque stroll through Old Town, was truly a memorable experience. From the opulent setting of the palace to the cobblestone streets of Bucharest’s historic center, this celebration had it all—grandeur, romance, and a touch of old-world charm.

The Glamour of Suter Palace Hotel

Nestled on a quiet hill, Suter Palace Hotel is one of the most exquisite venues in Bucharest, offering a blend of historical elegance and modern luxury. Built in the early 1900s, this neoclassical architectural gem offers an intimate, sophisticated ambiance, making it a perfect spot for a grand wedding celebration.

The interior boasts stunning crystal chandeliers, intricate woodwork, and antique furnishings, providing the perfect backdrop for capturing candid moments and posed portraits alike. Speaking of chandeliers, this palace is also home to the largest one in Europe, at 4 stories tall! The bride was especially excited about the chandelier, so we made sure to create a bunch of portraits featuring it. Each corner of the palace exudes elegance, making it easy to frame every shot as a timeless piece of art.

The Wedding Celebration

You may remember this couple from earlier this year. I photographed their elopement in Oceanside, Oregon. Since they eloped privately, they wanted to also celebrate with family later in the year. The bride’s family all lives in Romania, so naturally it made sense for them to have part of the celebration there, which is how I also ended up along for the journey!

The couple planned a lovely evening with a delicious multi course meal provided by the hotel’s Gramont Restaurant. Afterwards they showed a video from their elopement, and then everyone danced until late! The party took place in the Gramont Restaurant, which is just gorgeous, with a balcony that overlooks the city and the Parliament building.

Exploring Old Town Bucharest: A Photographer’s Playground

After the celebrations at Suter Palace, the next day’s photo session was an adventure in itself. We spent the afternoon exploring the heart of Bucharest and captured some candid moments in the city’s historic Old Town. This area, known for its cobblestone streets, lively atmosphere, and stunning architecture, provided a completely different but equally captivating setting.

A Stroll Through History

Old Town Bucharest, also known as Lipscani, is like stepping back in time. The area is brimming with history, from its medieval churches to its 19th-century buildings adorned with intricate facades.

One of the first stops was Stavropoleos Monastery, a small but stunning church with beautiful stone carvings and a peaceful courtyard. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take photos in the gorgeous courtyard, but we took lots of photos outside the church walls. The intricate details of the monastery’s facade provided a perfect backdrop for some romantic portraits.

Charming Cafés and Cobblestone Streets

From the monastery, we wandered through the winding streets, stopping at lots of little nooks and interesting locations along the way. The vibrant street art and historical buildings created a delightful contrast, offering a mix of modern and traditional elements in the photos. We also found a couple of streets that felt completely abandoned, with buildings crumbling, colorful graffiti, and stray cats roaming all around. I loved the light and color we found on those streets, for something a little different from the traditional historic architecture.
