I’m a big fan of photographing intimate gatherings, and this backyard wedding in Canby Oregon was one for the books! This sweet couple hired me just 2 days before their wedding day. And we even managed to squeeze in an engagement session on the day in between!

They were originally aiming for a Summer wedding but shifted their plans when the groom’s beloved grandmother encountered a sudden health challenge that tugged at their heartstrings. The couple made the heartfelt decision to expedite their wedding plans. With the help of their family, they put together this beautiful day in just 2 weeks!

Not to mention, Oregon graciously bestowed its blessings upon them. March unfolded with the most enchanting and unexpected weather, casting a spell of serenity and beauty over their wedding preparations. With blue skies, warm temperatures, and gentle breezes carrying the sweet scent of spring, the weather proved to be miraculous. It set the stage for a truly unforgettable celebration. As they exchanged vows beneath a canopy of blue skies it was as though the universe had conspired to shower them with blessings on their special day.

Family-Forged Wedding Magic

As the big day dawned, the culmination of their collective efforts was nothing short of magical. Truly a testament to the power of love that shines from coming together as a family in times of need.

The ceremony was in the backyard of the groom’s grandma’s home and farm. She has a beautiful mid-century house, with floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking the rolling fields of Canby. The groom spent the majority of his childhood around her house. It is a very special place for both him and the bride. Also, almost all of the groom’s family lives within a few miles of the home.

When I arrived, everyone was bustling about, watering the gardens, setting the tables, moving freshly potted flowers, and setting up decor and refreshments. It was clear right away that this day was a family labor of love.

The officiant was their cousin (and also one of their closest friends). Their uncle was once a florist, and very kindly created all the amazing floral arrangements and bouquets. In addition, he also put together the scrumptious and beautifully designed charcuterie boards. The neighbors made all the delicious food for lunch. The outdoor table was designed using two sets of Grandma’s vintage china patterns, and the gorgeous table runner was handmade by some of the aunts. Every detail had a touch of family infused within it, which added extra special meaning to the entire day.
