Last month I got to go on some Isla Mujeres and Cancun wedding adventures in Mexico! It was a fairly last-minute trip and aligned magically in the stars. This time of year I usually have ZERO free weekends, and barely any free days since everyone wants fall and holiday and family photos before Winter hits. But I had crossed off this particular weekend on my calendar (“Say NO to everything” is what I had written) when I found out my boyfriend would be traveling with his mom and brother for her birthday. An entire free weekend all alone? Sign me up! I should have known better. Anyone who knows me knows I can’t say no to anything. When my friend texted and asked what the chances were that the universe left the weekend open for me to be her plus-one at a wedding in Cancun, it just seemed meant to be. And I couldn’t say no. If only we could have stayed an entire week!
I was so excited when the bride asked if I could take photos of their pre-wedding catamaran excursion, and some guest photos during cocktail hour. Going to a wedding all the way in Mexico without my camera would have just felt wrong! Plus, I’m most comfortable when I’m with my camera in hand, so it worked out well for getting to know a whole gang of strangers. Since it basically takes up an entire carry-on, and is really heavy, I otherwise would have just left it behind!
The morning after we arrived, we woke up bright and early for a catamaran trip to Isla Mujeres. We stopped for snorkeling along the way. I’ve never seen such vibrant blue waters before, it was a gorgeous day! In Isla Mujeres, my friend and I headed straight into town to explore. She modeled for me with some of the colorful buildings, and I jumped in a couple shots as well. Then we met up with a cute couple from the wedding party and they got in on the modeling action as well! I loved all the vibrant color and fun backdrops. I could have photographed here all day.
Things got amped up on the ride back to Cancun. Tequila was poured (and I mean poured), and music was played, and dancing was… danced.
We stayed at the Iberostar Resort, and it was pretty amazing. The wedding was also at Iberostar in Cancun. It was actually calling for rain, but the couple was set on having a beachside ceremony and cocktail hour no matter what! I was all for it. We all had umbrellas in tow. But, luckily it did not rain, and everything was perfect. Once it was dark, everyone headed indoors for the reception. I loved all the decor and details! And they had an LED dancefloor which was super fun.
This was such a memorable trip, and everyone was so welcoming and fun to be around. I feel so lucky to have been a part of the festivities. Even if it was a whirlwind trip, every minute was worth it! I won’t soon forget all these fun Isla Mujeres and Cancun wedding adventures or new friends.
