I’d been looking forward to this wedding at the Portofino Hotel for over a year, and it did not disappoint. By a crazy coincidence, I happened to be in Los Angeles the day that this bride first emailed me. She asked if I ever traveled to Los Angeles, or ever worked there. Therefore, we met up right away and chatted all about her wedding plans and her fiancé.
A few months later I headed back to LA for their engagement session around Loyola University. The campus has beautiful views of the city skyline. They are the most adorable couple! The bride was a guest at a wedding I photographed in 2009 at Graylyn Estate in Winston Salem, NC.
These two were married in their family church, Holman United Methodist in Los Angeles. The church had great walls with interesting stained glass peepholes. Although the peepholes were small, there was plenty of natural light from large windows on one wall. Behind the altar was a really awesome backdrop that I’m not sure how to describe, but I’ll try. There were hundreds of wooden blocks suspended on rods. Each side of each block was painted a different color. You could turn the blocks around on the rods, therefore it gave great texture and visual interest to the images.
After the ceremony everyone headed to Redondo Beach for their wedding reception at The Portofino Hotel and Marina. I loved both locations. The Portofino was amazing and had a beautiful sunset. There was even a Gondola in the bay.
