An Engagement Inside Schoolhouse Electric

I was so excited when this couple told me they wanted their engagement inside Schoolhouse Electric. Schoolhouse Electric is in the industrial area of NW Portland. Their online listing states that they are a “storefront presenting vintage-styled furniture, lighting & home goods plus hardware”. It’s a cute shop with lots of natural light and tons of things I want to buy.

They have a big selection of unique light fixtures. In one area of the store there are tons hanging from the ceiling. It was fun having the couple stand underneath. The bride was also enamored with a wall completely covered with clocks, which was unique!  The display arrangements in the store break up the space by color, room type, or style. Because of this, the variety of backdrops seemed endless.

We tried out all the different chairs and couches. At one point I had the bride peeking out from behind a shower curtain. There were even fake doorways, and decorated dining areas. The bride had one quick outfit change, from a pale neutral dress to a brighter pink dress.  I loved the groom’s floral button up shirt and green slacks.  And can we talk about her fun shoes?!  Afterwards we took some portraits around the outside of the building.

Buffalo Trace Proposal

The bride surprised the groom on his 30th birthday by taking him on a trip to follow the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.  As the bride put it, “he flipped the surprise” and proposed to her during the trip, in the yard of the Buffalo Trace Distillery.  They brought a bottle of Buffalo Trace to the engagement session inside Schoolhouse Electric since it had meaning for them.  We took a few shots with the engagement ring on the bottle. At the couple’s wedding they had Buffalo Trace barrel tops for guests to sign, which I thought was pretty clever and meaningful.
